Redesign and modernise Regius School website with a focus on creating a visually appealing, user-friendly platform that is optimised for search engines.
The Challenge:
Regius School - a private Christian School based in Edinburgh, Scotland - faced a significant challenge with their outdated website. The existing site failed to accurately represent the school's brand, was difficult to navigate, and lacked essential information. This hindered their ability to attract new families and effectively communicate with their target audience.

To ensure a successful website redesign, the Matrixx Consultants followed a structured approach. After gathering feedback from the School Board, Teaching staff and current families, they identified the school's target audience and analysed industry best practices. They then conducted a thorough content audit and prioritised key information. Our team established clear goals for the redesign and planned the website's structure. They created a visually appealing design that reflected the School's brand and values and developed a responsive website that functioned well on all devices.

A key focus throughout the work was engaging with a contact from the School Board of Directors, to ensure that the language and content were consistent with the school’s brand values.

Our Consultants completely redesigned the website, ensuring a modern and professional aesthetic that aligned with Regius School's brand. The new site features a clear navigation structure, making it easy for visitors to find the information they need.

To ensure a successful website launch, our Consultants followed a structured framework:

Needs Assessment

A comprehensive review was conducted to understand needs and goals for the website from School Board members, Teaching Staff, and the School’s Lead Administrator.

Target Audience Identification

The School’s primary target audience was identified (Current and Prospective parents, Supporters of the School, Prospective Donors and New Talent).

Goal Setting

The main goals and objectives of the website redesign were clearly articulated, to ensure that a right-first-time approach could be taken.

Benchmarking

Other School websites were reviewed to identify best practices, design elements, and functionality.

Content Audit

The existing website's content was thoroughly reviewed, to identify what was relevant, outdated, or missing.  Analytics were used to assess the effectiveness of the website.

Content Development

Content development was prioritized based on importance and target audience needs. Text was written, photographs were taken, and graphics were created, to best showcase the School.

Information Architecture

The website structure and navigation were designed to maximise the needs of the target audiences. Forms were created to streamline existing processes, including making Charitable Donations.

Design

A visually appealing website design was created that aligned with the School's brand and values. Additional functionality was incorporated, including a Cookie Consent Management Platform, Google Analytics and MS Clarity.

Development, Testing & Launch

The website was designed to be responsive and function well on various devices. After completing internal checking and user testing, the website was successfully launched on time.

Content That Connects

It is a well-known fact that a website is only as good as its content. We worked very closely with one of the School’s Board members to develop engaging and informative content that highlights the unique mission and vision of Regius School. By using compelling storytelling techniques and authentic imagery, we were able to create content that resonated with current and prospective families. This included featuring pupil, parent and teacher testimonials to bring the school to life for the target audience.

Informative Value

The previous website lacked crucial information necessary for the Prospective Parents to make informed decisions about Regius School. Additionally, prospective supporters and donors had no visibility of the School’s support and funding requirements. To address these challenges, our Consultants created dedicated landing pages with engaging and informative content. These pages feature topics such as About the School, Admissions and Fees, Supporting Regius, and a Parents Portal.

Visual Enhancements

The existing website lacked authentic visual content that accurately represented Regius School's caring and welcoming atmosphere. Recognising the importance of visual storytelling, an additional scope of work, to conduct a professional photoshoot, was approved. Our team visited the school twice, capturing dynamic images of pupils interacting in classrooms and participating in extracurricular activities. These images added authenticity and helped create a more engaging experience for website visitors.

User-Friendly Design

A user-friendly design is crucial for providing a positive experience and encouraging visitors to stay on a website.  

During the Content Audit our team identified that 90% of Regius School’s website traffic came from mobile and tablet users. The previous website's lack of mobile responsiveness gave a frustrating user experience, potentially driving away visitors and hindering the school's ability to attract new families. The new website was designed with a mobile-first approach, while simultaneously creating a seamless experience for users on other devices.  

Streamlining Communication through Effective Contact Forms

The previous website lacked effective communication channels. Our team worked with the School’s Administrative Lead and Finance Lead to streamline communications with prospective parents and donors and simplify existing school processes. In addition to a Contact Form the website now has the following:

  • An Admissions Enquiry Form that gathers specific information that the Administrative Lead needs from prospective parents. This streamlines the information gathering process and gives the Admin Lead  all the necessary information required to have a successful first call.
  • A Donation Form that gathers information from donors and enables them to make immediate donations by credit card. The Form enables the Finance Lead to have critical information to enable them to claim back UK Gift Aid, as well as other contact information.  

Focused Landing Pages

Targeted landing pages can help to improve conversion rates by providing a focused user experience and encouraging specific actions, such as filling out a contact form or making a donation. To support the School's fundraising initiatives, the Matrixx team created targeted landing pages specifically designed to encourage charitable donations. These landing pages featured compelling visuals, persuasive copy, and a clear call to action. By focusing on specific fundraising campaigns, such as Sponsoring a Project or Providing pupils with a Bursary, we were able to tailor the content and messaging to resonate with potential donors. This resulted in increased engagement and increased numbers of charitable donations being made.

Business Outcomes

4 new parents submitted Admissions forms to Regius School within the first four weeks. Of these, two enrolled their children in the current school year, and one is expected to enroll next year. The remaining application is still under review.

30% increase in number of new donors making charitable donations to Regius School within the first 4 weeks of the website being live.

Website traffic increased by 158% within the first 4 weeks due to enhanced SEO and a more user-friendly design.

Positive endorsements from Regius School Board members, parents, and teachers indicate that the improved website accurately reflects the school's brand image.
